Library Treasures: Unexpected Worlds is a special event that offers a rare opportunity to explore a fascinating selection of items from the cathedral’s historic collections. Attendees will uncover surprising connections between the Cathedral’s archives and the theme of "worlds beyond our Earth." The event will feature an eclectic array of 12 books and manuscripts, all centered around the concept of other worlds. This broad theme encompasses topics such as astronomical instruments, unicorns, space travel, and even heaven. The collection spans various time periods—from medieval figures like Roger Bacon to modern works, such as Walking with Traherne by Paul Johnson, which explores how Traherne’s ideas align with this theme. Jennifer Dumbelton, Hereford Cathedral Librarian, explained: "We’ve designed Unexpected Worlds to give people a hands-on experience with our library and archive collections. It’s an interactive event, where the audience will help determine the order in which we discuss the items. We want attendees to experience the library’s impressive collection up close and in an engaging way. We’re excited to open up these treasures to everyone who joins us."
