Prayer Groups Prayer is a very important part of our community here at Hereford Cathedral. Alongside our services, we hold several different prayer groups which all are welcome to attend. Cathedral Prayer Group | Tuesdays at 10.30am The Cathedral Prayer Group meets every Tuesday for an hour, from 10.30 am in the Old Chapel in the cathedral cloisters. Anybody is free to come and join us in silent or spoken prayer. We usually begin with a few minutes of quiet prayer, often with music, before prayerfully reading the cards that are left at the Shrine and the Memorial window each week. We also pray for cathedral staff and volunteers; from time to time we invite such cathedral members to spend a few minutes meeting with us, explaining their roles and what their prayer needs are. We then pray about any other matters, large or small, global or local. We end by reading some of the Bible verses from the Lectionary for the following Sunday. And after all that, we invariably go for coffee in the cathedral café! The Contemplative Prayer Group | Tuesdays at 6.30pm This prayer group meets weekly at the high altar in the cathedral at 6.30 pm on Tuesdays for 30 minutes. We are currently few in number but “hold the space" for silent prayer and contemplation. Prayers for Peace | Saturdays at 11am Each Saturday morning, at 11 am, Prayers for Peace are said in the Stanbury Chapel. This is open to anyone who wishes to spend half an hour praying for peace and reconciliation in our troubled world. We usually begin with some contemplative music and a period of silence, before following a short order of service. Please come and join us, if you are in town, or passing through the Cathedral. - you would be very welcome. Evening Hour | Second Sunday of the month, 5.30 pm The Evening Hour is a relaxed and peaceful service which takes place in the North Transept of Hereford Cathedral on the second Sunday of each month between 5.30 and 6.30pm. The service focuses on prayer for healing and wholeness, and those attending may bring concerns for healing for themselves, for someone they care for, or for the wider world in which we live. The service includes the opportunity to receive the laying on of hands for those who wish to receive it. Discretion is a key part of the Evening Hour with individuals being able to make particular requests for prayer in privacy, and to participate in the services as much or as little as they wish. City Praise | Monthly on a Sunday, 7 pm City Praise is an opportunity for Christians from a wide variety of the churches in Hereford to gather together for worship in Hereford Cathedral to seek God together in worship Prayer Network A network of people who cannot always be physically present in Hereford Cathedral who choose to join the cathedral’s community of prayer, committing themselves to praying daily in response to short-term requests from members of the congregation.
