Historic City Walks | Hereford Guild of Mayor's Guides

Welcome to Hereford! Our ancient city has a fascinating history, whose position in the borderland between England and Wales made it strategically important to the Saxons, the Normans and their successors. The City played a leading part in events before and after the Norman Conquest, through the turbulent Middle Ages and during the Civil War. It developed as a quiet market town and Cathedral City, and today is home to approximately 62,000 people, and the focal point of a rich farming area.

Our trained volunteer guides will relate aspects of the city’s history, reveal some of its many characteristics from Medieval oak to Edwardian grandeur, and introduce you to some historic citizens of character, culture and renown.

City walking tours run daily from 1st April to 31st October starting from the Cathedral Main North Porch entrance.

Tours run Monday to Saturday at 11.30am and Sundays at 2.30pm.

Tours last approximately 90 minutes The charge is £7.50 for Adults and £1 for accompanied Young People aged 6 - 17 years.

15 places maximum are available per daily tour. 

Tickets are also available to purchase from the Cathedral’s Ticket Desk located just inside the main North entrance point and is open Monday - Saturday, 10am - 5pm. When this is unavailable on Sundays, or for special Cathedral events, your Guide can accept cash (exact amount preferred please) or book online. Click here to purchase tickets online.

We regret we cannot offer exchanges. Refunds are only given in the rare event that the Guild cancels a walk. Please note we can only allow Assistance Dogs on our walks.
