Bells and Ringing The tower contains a ring of 10 bells, the oldest being the 6th which is believed to have been cast c1350. The heaviest bell, the tenor, is nearly 34cwt and is around 500 years old. The ringing chamber has several posts and beams which makes ringing at Hereford an interesting experience. We have recently installed a simulator to our front six bells. This gives us more opportunities for teaching and improving our ringing. We are now able to offer extended practices to teach bell handling and other basic skills to new members of our band. We practice on a Tuesday evening, ringing 19:30 to 21:00 meeting by St John’s door at 19:15 as the door is locked before we go up the tower. The bells are rung every Sunday morning between 9:00 and 10:00. Ringing and non-ringing visitors are welcome on Tuesdays and Sundays, if you wish to join a ringing session, find out about learning to ring, or would like to request special ringing, please contact our secretary via [email protected] Manage Cookie Preferences
