Archives

The online catalogue for the archive collection can be found here: https://archive.herefordcathedral.org. It currently holds records of our Deeds collection, but more records are being added each month.

The calendar of the medieval archives and a list of account rolls can be downloaded from the National Archives Discovery catalogue. Under ‘Find an archive’ enter ‘Hereford Cathedral’ and click on the search icon. Then select ‘Hereford Cathedral Library & Archives’ and under ‘paper catalogues available to view at The National Archives’ clink on “link to scanned list” for each section.
The remainder of Hereford Cathedral’s archives are available in electronic or paper versions in our reading room. Please email us on [email protected] if you are unable to visit in person.

Manuscript books
The definitive guide to our medieval bound manuscripts is Catalogue of the Manuscripts of Hereford Cathedral Library by R.A.B. Mynors and R.M. Thomson, which can be consulted in our reading room.
The medieval manuscript books are also included in the Medieval Libraries of Great Britain 3 (MLGB3) database. Select ‘Advanced search’ and in the ‘Modern location’ box enter ‘Hereford’.

Books
Our catalogue of printed books is available online. The catalogue includes all the titles from the modern lending collection, reference collection and the historic collections, including the printed books in the chained library. 

Please note the library catalogue is only accessible on computers. On some mobile devices, it may be possible to access the catalogue by going into browser settings and selecting ‘View Desktop Version’ or ‘Desktop site’.
