The Evening Hour is a relaxed and peaceful service which takes place in the North Transept of Hereford Cathedral on the second Sunday of each month between 5.30 and 6.30pm.

The service focuses on prayer for healing and wholeness, and those attending may bring concerns for healing for themselves, for someone they care for, or for the wider world in which we live. The service includes the opportunity to receive the laying on of hands for those who wish to receive it. Discretion is a key part of the Evening Hour with individuals being able to make particular requests for prayer in privacy, and to participate in the services as much or as little as they wish.

On arrival at the cathedral, guests are greeted with the sounds of soothing and reflective music before being offered a service sheet and invited to take a seat. The service takes place in a circle around a candle, and readings or reflections are shared by those leading the service. There is also the option to join in with a Taize chant or well-known hymn for those who wish to.

The Reverend Prebendary Kay Garlick, DL who often leads Evening Hour said, ‘The Evening Hour is a quiet, reflective service with readings, prayers and music, and offers a calm supportive environment in which to lay our concerns before God. For some people it has become a regular part of their prayer life – for others it is a quiet haven to visit when life is particularly difficult. All are welcome.’
