Throughout August, Hereford Cathedral becomes home to the 'RoadPeace Doves'. A display produced by RoadPeace as part of their 'Peace in the Park' campaign, a tribute to those killed on our roads.

The project is a collaboration between RoadPeace West Midland and West Mercia Groups, Birmingham Youth Justice Service, CFG Law, Birmingham Cathedral, and St. Martin in the Bull Ring. Each dove displays photos and stories of those killed in in collisions in West Mercia and West Midlands. RoadPeace have worked alongside the ELY Memorial Fund, a Herefordshire based charity supporting families of those aged 17-25 that have lost their lives through a collision, to create a singular blue dove, displaying victims photos of those involved with the charity.

Abbie Brooks, RoadPeace West Mercia Project and Outreach Coordinator explained what the project means to her:

“The photos of the victims you see on the doves are someone’s family member. The doves are a reminder that behind every headline or statistic you hear, someone has lost their life, and families are changed forever. The doves were made by bereaved family members and young people involved in driving related crime to highlight the devastating impact that road death has. It’s incredibly moving for our West Mercia and West Midlands members to see the journey the doves have been on across the region.

From my personal perspective, as a bereaved sister, I feel incredibly moved to see the doves displayed in the county I call 'home'. We are incredibly grateful to CFG Law and Hereford Cathedral for their efforts in ensuring this happened and extremely proud of our members for their continued efforts and support, in the hope that one day, there will be no deaths on our roads.”

The RoadPeace doves will be on display on the West End railings throughout August. For more information on RoadPeace please visit: www.roadpeace.org
