Following on from the government's announcement on Monday 23 March, Hereford Cathedral is now closed to the public until further notice. We are also suspending all tours, events and visits as well as closing the Cathedral Cafe, Shop and Mappa Mundi & Chained Library Exhibition.

Hereford Cathedral's Organisational Statement on Covid 19 can be read here (pdf download). Please note that this is an evolving document and we advise checking this page regularly to be informed of our latest updates (Thursday 21 May 2020)

We are currently working on utilising our website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages to ensure that those who are unable or choose not to visit the cathedral during this time still have access to faith and worship resources on a regular basis. We fully understand that not everybody has access to digital resources or is confident in using these so we are also establishing a telephone network to be able to support those within our congregation or community who made need our support the most. If you, or someone you know, needs pastoral support please contact the Cathedral Office (01432 374 200) or email [email protected]

We encourage members of our community to follow the good hygiene practices which have been recommended by the NHS to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus:

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
