Cathedral Seedlings support special Care Baby Unit Hereford Cathedral Seedlings raise £350 through ‘40 Days of Kindness’ challenge to support Special Care Baby Unit at Hereford County Hospital. Cathedral Seedlings, a baby and toddler group based at Hereford Cathedral, took on a special 40 Days of Kindness Challenge during Lent earlier this year. The group, which meets every Thursday morning in term time, set each child the challenge of completing forty simple acts of kindness at home and within their communities. Activities ranged from using their ‘best manners’ to carrying out a litter pick in their local area. Through sponsorship from family members, friends, and generous members of the cathedral congregation, the children raised £350 for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Hereford County Hospital The SCBU is currently upgrading its Parent Room to offer a more comfortable space for families with babies receiving specialist care. This cause is particularly meaningful for many Cathedral Seedlings families as several have benefitted from the unit in the past. Julie Allmark, Education and Families Officer at Hereford Cathedral, said: “I am immensely proud of our Cathedral Seedlings, who have proved that even the very small can make a huge impact in our community. It was exciting to hear about everyone’s progress each week and learn how much kindness they were spreading—from writing notes to elderly neighbours, to making bird feeders, to helping set the dinner table. Being able to donate this money to such a worthwhile cause, so close to many of our hearts, is truly wonderful.” On Thursday 27 November, the group welcomed Katie Farmer, Fundraising Manager at Hereford County Hospital, to Cathedral Seedlings to meet the children and hear more about their kindness challenge and fundraising efforts. The group were thrilled to share how they completed their activities and how pleased they were to support the SCBU. Cathedral Seedlings meets every Thursday in term time, from 10 am to 11.30 am in College Hall, and is free to attend.
