Due to the retirement of our senior lay clerk after over 40 years’ service, Hereford Cathedral is looking to appoint a new tenor decani lay clerk.

The choir sings eight services each week in term, as well for the major festivals and special occasions.  A salary of £12,551 is payable, and the cathedral offers a pension contribution of 8% to a non-contributory scheme.  Lay clerks are also expected to take part in the Three Choirs Festival, which is separately remunerated.

The appointment of the successful candidate is subject to the receipt of two satisfactory references, a satisfactory DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check and proof of right to work in the UK.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 1 July 2026 at midday. Auditions and interviews will be held on Monday 6 July and any applicant should note that we would need you to be available from 1 – 6.30 pm on that day.
