On Saturday 12 October, October’s Afternoon Music – Beyond the Final Frontier will boldly go where few have gone before with a special sci-fi-themed organ concert, slightly extended to feature a captivating mix of music and reflections.

Peter Dyke, Assistant Director of Music at Hereford Cathedral, will take centre stage, performing a selection of iconic music from beloved film and television sci-fi classics. Accompanying him will be the Revd Canon James Pacey, who will offer a series of short reflections on the intersection of science fiction and spirituality, providing a deeper exploration into our fascination with space and the unknown.

Peter Dyke, Assistant Director of Music at Hereford Cathedral said: "The cathedral’s mighty 4,000-pipe organ was a technological and musical miracle when it was built 130 years ago, and when sitting at the console it can feel a little like being on the flight deck of the Starship Enterprise. It will be exciting to explore how music from space-related films sounds in the great space of Hereford Cathedral!"

The Revd Canon James Pacey, Chancellor of Hereford Cathedral, added: "As a science fiction fan and lover of all things space, I am immensely excited about hearing some well known themes from the world of sci-fi on our magnificent Willis organ. Come along and be beamed into a galaxy far, far away and discover a little of how our love for science fiction also reflects our thirst for spirituality."

This event takes place in the cathedral nave on Saturday 12 October at 3.15 pm and is free to attend, and no booking is required.
