Marc Murray was born and educated in South Africa. Marc moved to the United Kingdom in 2010 to take up the post of Director of Music at St Botolph’s Church, Boston. Whilst in Lincolnshire, he was also conductor of Peterborough Opera.

As a choral specialist, Marc is Director of Music at Bury Parish Church, conductor of Southport Bach Choir, Preston Cecilian Choral Society, and The Rawstorne Singers.  This summer, he conducted the Southport Bach Choir in the Leipzig International Bach Festival. He is Foundation Organist and Organ Teacher at Bolton School, and visiting organ teacher to both a private school and university.

Marc completed postgraduate studies in Baroque Performance Practice at the University of York and is a doctoral research candidate at the University. He is a Fellow and holds the Choral Directing Diploma of the Royal College of Organists. 

In South Africa, Marc worked for the National Department of Education (DoE) school singing programme and was accompanist and vocal coach to the DoE’s South African Youth Choir. He also worked as ‘Acting’ Chorus Master and then, Assistant Chorus Master for Cape Town Opera.  

Marc is a regular continuo player with Ad Hoc Baroque Ensemble and Leeds Baroque.
