Hereford Cathedral will be the focus of a live broadcast on Wednesday 15 November when its world-renowned choir will sing Choral Evensong live on BBC Radio 3 (4pm).

The broadcast of Choral Evensong will be heard by its regular audience of over a quarter of a million listeners all over the world. Music for the service will include pieces by William Byrd and Max Reger, both of whom see significant anniversaries this year as 2023 marks the 400th anniversary of the death of Byrd and 150 years since the birth of Reger, alongside works by Philip Moore who celebrated his 80th birthday earlier this year, Douglas Guest and Sydney Watson.

Geraint Bowen, Organist and Director of Music, said: ‘A live broadcast is one of the many highlights that the choristers experience during their time in the choir. They have a fascinating day watching the setting up of the equipment, going through the various sound checks, and finally waiting for the exciting moment when the red light goes on.’

All are welcome at this service, which will last for about an hour: those attending are asked to be seated by 3.45 pm. The broadcast will be repeated on BBC Radio 3 on Sunday 19 November at 3pm and will also be available on BBC Sounds live and following the broadcast.
