The Day thou gavest C.D

A brand new CD recording featuring a selection of much-loved hymns is currently available in Hereford Cathedral Shop.

The Day Thou Gavest is sung by Hereford Cathedral Voluntary Choir and features a collection of music and hymns appropriate for people to remember their loved ones. The collection was compiled as a resource for families and clergy who may be looking for musical guidance during the mourning process but Peter Dyke, director of Hereford Cathedral Voluntary Choir, stresses that the collection is far from gloomy!

“I am sure people will enjoy listening to The Day Thou Gavest. When I put on the final edit in the car I found it impossible not to sing along with these fantastic pieces, spurred on by the choir’s singing and the accompaniment on the wonderful Hereford Willis organ.”

Hymns featured on the CD, including Amazing Grace, Abide with me and The Day Thou Gavest, are strong and positive whilst telling a story of compassion, comfort, and the Christian hope of eternal life. Also included are four choir items (including Parry’s There is an old belief, and Peter Dyke’s own Night Song), a soprano solo (Pie Jesu, from Fauré’s Requiem), three organ solos and a plainsong Nunc Dimittis.

The CD is not only suitable for those who have been bereaved but is also an enjoyable listen for anyone – filled with beautiful hymns, directed by Peter Dyke and accompanied by Simon Bland and Jeremy Cole on organ. The Day Thou Gavest is available from the Cathedral Shop for £10.
