The Chapter of Hereford Cathedral is seeking experienced candidates to join its Finance Committee to advise the Chapter on financial matters, make recommendations for decisions on the management of cash, investments and properties, and provide oversight and governance of the Cathedral’s stewardship of funds.

The purpose of the Committee is to monitor and guide the Cathedral’s financial performance, investments and property portfolio.  Candidates should therefore have relevant and recent financial experience, and/or a track record in accountancy, investments, property management or business leadership. In addition to sound interpersonal skills, they should be competent and able to exercise governance in a complex Christian organisation.

The Finance Committee has been well-established at the Cathedral for many years, but is refocusing under the Cathedral’s new governing document, its Constitution and Statutes. This has been drawn up in line with the Cathedrals Measure 2021, under which the Cathedral has registered with the Charity Commission as a charity (number 1205397).

The role has a commitment to no more than six meetings per year, with appropriate preparatory reading. The position is voluntary and unremunerated, although expenses may be paid in respect of some travel costs if required. Full details of the role may be found here.

Please apply with a CV and covering letter outlining your qualifications and/or experience to Canon Duncan Jones, 5 College Cloisters, Cathedral Close, Hereford, HR1 2NG or by email to [email protected] before 31 December 2023. An Equal Opportunities monitoring form will be made available to candidates.
