The Easter Monday organ concert at Hereford cathedral is a much enjoyed part of the seasonal festivities every year. Although no physical concert can take place this year because of the coronavirus restrictions, Peter Dyke, the cathedral’s Assistant Director of Music has prepared a recorded recital, so that it can be released online for everyone to enjoy at home.

Peter said “We know that people have really missed live music during the lockdown, and releasing a concert online is a great way to share some magnificent pieces of music and the wonders of the Father Willis organ – in a way that makes it possible to listen again and again. I’ve included many of the popular pieces the audience will recognise such as Widor’s Toccata and Susato’s Mohrentanz, but also some exciting music that hasn’t been played here so often, including Grieg’s depiction of Morning from Peer Gynt, and William Walton’s spectacular Coronation March Orb and Sceptre, composed for HM Queen Elizabeth II. Everyone should find plenty to enjoy in this mixed musical bouquet!”
