The Chapter of Hereford Cathedral is seeking experienced and enthusiastic candidates to join its new Audit and Risk Committee to advise on oversight of auditing and internal controls at the Cathedral to support its ongoing mission.  It is also looking for an individual with an interest in chairing that committee.

The Audit and Risk Committee has been newly-established under the Cathedral’s governing document, its Constitution and Statutes, drawn up in line with the Cathedrals Measure 2021. Under that legislation, the Cathedral has been registered with the Charity Commission as a charity (number 1205397).  The purpose of the committee is to provide independent oversight of the Cathedral’s systems of internal control, risk management and financial reporting, and through supervision of the quality, independence and effectiveness of both internal and external auditors.

Candidates should have relevant and recent financial experience (for the Chair of the committee this is essential), or a track record in compliance, risk management or audit work. In addition to sound interpersonal skills, they should also be competent and able to exercise governance in a complex Christian organisation.  The Chair should additionally have experience of leading meetings, working effectively and collaboratively as a member of a team and be able to shape, drive, scrutinise and monitor decisions.

The role is voluntary and has a commitment to no more than four meetings per year. Full details of the position are available here.

Please apply with a CV and covering letter outlining your qualifications and/or experience to Canon Duncan Jones, 5 College Cloisters, Cathedral Close, Hereford, HR1 2NG or by email to [email protected] before 31 December 2023. An Equal Opportunities monitoring form will be made available to candidates.
