Hereford Cathedral is looking for applications of interest from cafés or caterers to take over the management of the Cathedral Café and event catering.

The Cathedral Café is a hidden gem set in a unique location, which serves not only visiting tourists but is also a popular meeting place for members of the cathedral community. The space benefits immensely from the footfall of visitors into the Mappa Mundi & Chained Library Exhibition, as most visits to the cathedral are not complete without stopping for a cup of tea and slice of cake!

During the summer months the Chapter House Garden, which sits alongside the café, is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon and is often filled with families making the most of the sunshine whilst enjoying an ice cream or cold drink. The Cathedral Café is also very popular during the Jazz in the Garden concerts which run for six weeks during the summer on a Friday lunchtime, when hundreds of people flock to the garden to watch local musicians with a glass of wine or bottle of local cider.

Chris Milton, Chief Operating Officer for the cathedral, explains: “Like many businesses and organisations, 2020 has forced us all to examine the ways in which our businesses function and operate, and we feel that now is the right time for the Cathedral Café to be offered as a concession. Our city and county is blessed with an array of top-quality food producers and catering businesses which are really putting Herefordshire onto the map as a destination. We are incredibly excited to embrace this opportunity for fresh inspiration and new ideas and would welcome all who are interested to apply.”

The Hereford Cathedral Enterprises board are inviting expressions of interest from existing café or catering organisations with a proven track record of high-quality delivery and excellent customer service who would be able to enhance and encourage the visitor offering to the cathedral.
