HRH The Countess of Wessex will be attending Hereford Cathedral’s Service for Advent in London on Tuesday 29 November.

Since 2010, the Choir of Hereford Cathedral have sung an Advent Service in London at the Royal Military Chapel (Guards’ Chapel) at Wellington Barracks. Following an Act of Remembrance to the members of the Special Air Service (SAS) who were killed during the Second World War, the service moves into the Advent Prose. This year the service will be attended by HRH The Countess of Wessex.

Initially developed to celebrate the links that Hereford Cathedral has with the local military community, the service has now become a way for supporters of the cathedral, who work or live in London, to experience Hereford Cathedral at Christmas time. All are welcome to join the service, but tickets must be applied for in advance.

Following the service, there is a reception in the Officer’s Mess which is an opportunity to enjoy the wider setting of Wellington Barracks, meet old and new friends and to begin your Christmas celebrations. Tickets for the reception can be purchased via Eventbrite on the cathedral website.

Glyn Morgan, Chief Executive of Hereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust, says; “The service is a truly special event in which we are able to welcome friends, old and new, to the Guards’ Chapel.”

“This year we are very pleased to welcome HRH The Countess of Wessex who, over the years, has supported many cathedrals and choirs. We were delighted to welcome her to Hereford in 2018 when she visited to see the 1418NOW Poppies: Weeping Window installation and to meet some of those who had worked in the Hereford munition factories during the Second World War.”

“We have been very fortunate over the years to receive much generosity and kindness from Wellington Barracks and are very grateful to all of those who are involved in helping to organise the service.”

The service takes place at the Guards’ Chapel, London on Tuesday 29 November, 6.30 pm, in support of Hereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust, and entry is by ticket only. For more information and to apply for tickets please visit:
