Cantilupe Lecture: Revd Canon Chancellor James Pacey Finding the truth in the liturgy as an actor finds the truth in the narrative given by Revd Canon Chancellor James Pacey Coming from a theatre background, James is particularly interested in the points of consonance and dissonance between theatre and liturgy and his MA dissertation explored this topic. James is convinced that an approach to the celebration of the Eucharist in a similar way to how an actor approaches a performance, with the emphasis on truth, has the potential to transform how the liturgy is inhabited. This will be a relaxed distillation of his findings and conclusions with an opportunity to ask questions and provide some stimulus as to what we think about liturgy and this great mystery we call worship. As well as ministry work the Canon Chancellor is responsible for the Education department, which leads work with schools and families, and the cathedral’s Library and Archives team. Before becoming Canon Chancellor in June 2023, James ministered as part of the Chaplaincy team for the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham and prior to ordination worked as a theatre practitioner and director. The annual Cantilupe Lecture is free to attend, no pre-booking required. The talk starts at 4pm but please join us in the retrochoir for refreshments from 3.30 pm. Manage Cookie Preferences
