‘It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each has done.’ (1 Corinthians 3.13)

Lord Jesus,

your broken body, laid aside,

rose in glory.

Give resurrection hope to the people of Paris

and all who grieve the destructive fire

at Notre Dame.

From the ashes may beauty once more arise,

as from the grave our new life comes.

Amen.

From the Dean of Southwark, the Very Revd Andrew Nunn on behalf of the Association of English Cathedrals

Following the devastating fire at Notre Dame Cathedral, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York are asking cathedrals and churches across England to toll their bells for 7 minutes at 7pm on Thursday 18 April.

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York are today encouraging, where possible, all cathedrals and churches across England to toll a bell for 7 minutes at 7pm this Thursday, as a mark of solidarity following the devastating fire at Notre Dame Cathedral. This initiative has been suggested by the British Ambassador to France, Edward Llewellyn, and Hereford Cathedral will be taking part.
