The Order of St Ethelbert

The Order was founded in 2015 as a means of recognising and honouring women and men from the parishes of the diocese and beyond who have supported and nurtured the Christian ministry of the diocese in many and devoted ways.  The Order was presented to the successful recipients by the Bishop of Hereford in Hereford Cathedral on Sunday 13 October at 3.30pm. Each recipient received a signed certificate from Bishop Richard, a St Ethelbert medal and ribbon and a copy of the Dean’s book on St Ethelbert, King and Martyr.

Barbara Briggs, Marden. For services to Holmer church and her support of ministry for the over 60s.

 

Margaret Butcher, Hereford. For devoted work in the life and ministry of St James, Hereford.

 

Henry Chandler, Burghill. For devoted service to St Mary, Burghill, as crucifer, gardener and worship leader.

 

Jeremy Cummins, Whitbourne. For long service and support in the church life of Whitbourne and in Bromyard Deanery.

 

Sandra Davies, For devoted service in all aspects of the life and ministry of the church in Newcastle and Clun Forest Deanery.

 

Tom Davies, Hereford. For devoted support for Hereford Cathedral through his chairmanship of Hereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust.

 

The Revd Antony Feltham-White. For fostering excellent relationships between Hereford Garrison, the Cathedral, Hereford Cathedral School and the diocese.

 

Margaret Gardner, Tenbury Wells. For many years’ work as leader of Hereford Cathedral Broderers and for her support of parishes through this work.

 

Barbara Glasspoole, Tupsley. For devoted work in all aspects of the life and ministry of All Saints, Hereford.

 

Bill Gunn, Woolhope. For vision and inspiration in founding the Friends of Woolhope Church and for the many fabric projects which the Friends have supported.

 

Phyllis Gwilliam, St Margarets. For devoted support in all aspects of the life and ministry of the church at St Margarets.

 

Elizabeth Gwynne, Marden. For devoted support for local Christian Aid collections over many years.

 

Valerie Hardwick, Culmington. For devoted support in all aspects of the life and ministry of the church in Culmington, Ludlow.

 

Olive Howells, Michaelchurch Escley. For devoted work in all aspects of the life and ministry of the church in Michaelchurch Escley.

 

Jenny Ley, For notable support for Hereford Cathedral as guide and volunteer.

 

Peter Luley, St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Pittsburgh, USA. For generous and visionary support for the choir of Hereford Cathedral.

 

Helen Oldham, Hope Bowdler. For tireless support for the music at St Andrew, Hope Bowdler.

 

Dennis Owen, Minsterley. For tireless work in the life and ministry of Minsterley church.

 

Susan Powell, Hereford. For tireless work and organisation of the team of servers at Hereford Cathedral over many years.

 

Doreen Walters, Goodrich. For devoted work in all aspects of the life and ministry of Goodrich church.
