Congratulations to one of our cathedral broderers, Mary Roberts, who was nominated for an Ecclesiastical Heritage Hero Award 2017 for her outstanding work in recreating medieval silk vestments found in Chancellor Gilbert Swinfield's tomb in the cathedral. Her certificate of nomination was presented to her by the Dean on Wednesday 14 February at one of the regular weekly meetings of the broderers, who are responsible for making and repairing cathedral vestments, altar cloths, kneelers and other fabric, together with similar tasks for other churches in the diocese.

Ecclesiastical's Heritage Hero Awards are intended to recognise outstanding achievement by volunteers in saving, preserving and presenting to others the outstanding heritage that we enjoy. They are presented in association with the Heritage Alliance, which unites over 100 independent heritage organisations in England as a powerful, independent and effective advocate for heritage, believes that volunteers are the core of the heritage movement.
