The Eastern Cloisters team have returned to site after the Christmas break and it is full steam ahead with the works. There are currently around seventeen workers on site including carpenters, stonemasons and bricklayers

  • After completely stripping the roof of slates before Christmas, they are now finishing straightening out the roof beams and making structural repairs as the insulation of the new roof is about to begin. A selection of the slates which were removed by the builders were re-purposed and sold as coasters and plant markers by Sarah Hollingdale at the Christmas Fair. All of the proceeds from these sales were then reinvested back into the project!

  • Work is continuing on the Cloister walkways which are having the ceiling levels slightly adjusted to allow for the electrical duct which has been fitted.

  • Three out of six chimneys have now been rebuilt and are ready for topping and two out of six pieces of stonework within the chimneys by Simon and Max of Hudson Stonework.

If you visit the cathedral this week be sure to stop by the North Aisle display cabinet which features some building related discoveries! Pictured above is a member of the I J Preece team (our contractors) taking a look!
