Discovering Colossians and Philemon Teaching Week: Colossians and PhilemonMonday 1 - Friday 5 July 2024, 10 am – 3.15 pm Join The Right Revd Donald Allister in Old Chapel from Monday 1 to Friday 5 July for a Teaching Week where he will share his knowledge about Colossians and Philemon. The teaching week is open to anyone looking to deepen their understanding of two significant books from the bible. Each day will begin with the Eucharist and refreshments before two discussion sessions, lunch is provided by the cathedral. Attendees can choose to book for the whole week or individual days based on their availability. The Right Revd Donald Allister says: “Colossians, the letter written by the apostle Paul, probably from prison in the early to mid-50s AD, stresses the supremacy of Christ and the dangers of false teaching. Like Paul's other letters, it combines doctrinal teaching with practical wisdom for Christian living. Philemon is a short personal note from Paul to one of the church leaders in Colossae, possibly written at the same time and with a powerful message and a distinctive early Christian approach to slavery.” The Revd Canon James Pacey, Chancellor of Hereford Cathedral, says: “We are really pleased to welcome Bishop Donald back to the cathedral. His expertise and knowledge is always warmly received and we look forward to hearing him pry open more of St. Paul's letters over an informal but stimulating week.
