Hereford Cathedral has won the 'Outstanding Contribution to the City' category of the inaugural Hereford BID Business Awards, organised in conjunction with the Hereford Times.

There were three finalists in nine categories, and the winners were announced at a dinner in the Shire Hall on 5 October. Hereford Cathedral was nominated alongside Rural Concierge and the Wye River Carnival.

Responding to the announcement of the winners, the Dean of Hereford, the Very Reverend Michael Tavinor, said: 'We are very pleased to have won this award. The cathedral has of course been at the heart of city life in Hereford for hundreds of years, so we have some experience behind us! The acknowledgment by Hereford BID is a fitting tribute to all our staff and volunteers who do so much to care for the building and its treasures and to welcome visitors from the local area and from much further afield. We congratulate our fellow nominees and all the award winners.'
