Sunday Screenings in Lent - ‘Broken,’ a BAFTA award winning six-part BBC TV series

Father Michael (Sean Bean), is a Catholic priest who is modern, maverick, and reassuringly flawed and presides over a Northern urban parish. He must be confidant, counsellor and confessor to a congregation struggling to reconcile its beliefs with the challenges of daily life. One reviewer says: ‘Broken was a gutsy series. It dramatized big themes—conscience, guilt, shame—and, with powerful writing and performances, told big stories about the Church, poverty and abuse. It’s made for bitter viewing at times but even at its toughest, there’s been a lit candle glowing determinedly at its centre’. Why not lay aside the pious Lent books this year and view these episodes instead! Discussion over tea and cake will be led by Canon Chris Pullin and Prebendary Pam Row.
