Friends’ Spring Lecture: The Other Henry

Thursday 11 March 2021 at 7pm by Zoom

This lecture will be given by given by Richard Willmott, who will be talking about the Hereford organist, Henry Hall the Elder. The latter was brought up as a child of the Chapel Royal alongside Henry Purcell; he became an ardent Jacobite, an accomplished composer, a wittily satirical poet and an enthusiastic frequenter of the Black Lion.  One of the most colourful of Hereford’s organists, he may have even found time to play for the services! Richard will reveal what he has found out recently in researching Hall’s poetry.
