The Bishop's seat
The cathedral is so called because it contains the cathedra or seat of the Bishop, and is thus the ‘mother church’ of the diocese of Hereford. Through the centuries it has become a centre of pilgrimage and prayer, where generations of men and women, saints and sinners of every age, have come to know and love God. Its walls and floors incorporate memorials to countless individual Christians whose hearts and lives have been changed by the power of the Gospel. Christian Work The rest of this website can tell you a great deal about the fabric of the building and the daily business of the cathedral community, but at its heart is the regular offering of prayer and the daily celebration of the Eucharist. We hope that, after you have finished browsing our site through the worldwide web, you will be given the opportunity to convert your virtual visit into an actual pilgrimage, and come to pray with us in our ancient and beautiful church, which is open every day of the year to the greater glory of God. |
