Daily Prayer: Saturday

Almighty God, you have built your Church on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the head corner-stone: grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy people acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Bishop's seat
The cathedral is so called because it contains the cathedra or seat of the Bishop, and is thus the ‘mother church’ of the diocese of Hereford. Through the centuries it has become a centre of pilgrimage and prayer, where generations of men and women, saints and sinners of every age, have come to know and love God. Its walls and floors incorporate memorials to countless individual Christians whose hearts and lives have been changed by the power of the Gospel.

Christian Work
So the cathedral is a place to which people are drawn for worship and teaching: but it is also a place of witness and mission from which people are sent out to be Christ’s ambassadors in today’s world, preaching the Gospel of God’s love and forgiveness and of our reconciliation in Christ.

The rest of this website can tell you a great deal about the fabric of the building and the daily business of the cathedral community, but at its heart is the regular offering of prayer and the daily celebration of the Eucharist. We hope that, after you have finished browsing our site through the worldwide web, you will be given the opportunity to convert your virtual visit into an actual pilgrimage, and come to pray with us in our ancient and beautiful church, which is open every day of the year to the greater glory of God.
