Recording Angels
2009 on-wards £500
An informal group of friends were brought together in 2009 to help finance the production of two new CDs made by the Cathedral Choir and by Peter Dyke, Assistant Organist.
Howells from Hereford is a celebration of the three services that Herbert Howells wrote for cathedral choirs of Gloucester, Hereford and Worcester, along with a number of other pieces of Howell’s work. Julian Lloyd-Webber, godson of Herbert Howells, said of the disc ‘I know he would have been absolutely delighted with the recording’ while The Observer commented ‘‘… a glowing recording by this fine choir, which features an impressive set of trebles’.
The wonderful sound of the Willis has been captured by Peter Dyke on the disc Great European Organs No 80. The distinctive sounds of Elgar’s Variation on Enigma can be heard on the same instrument as Sir Edward may have listened himself during his many visits to the Cathedral.
The 2009 Recording Angels who supported the Howells from Hereford CD and the
Great European Organs No. 80 disc, through the Perpetual Trust, were:
Ray & Norma Boddington
Simon & Jo Boosey
John Clarke
Gillian Curtis
Peter & Delia Harris
Glyn Morgan
Bishop Anthony & Kathy Priddis
Robert & Jane Rogers
David & Angela Wyllie
and an anonymous donor
