Key Stage 2
Signs and Symbols Trail
Focus Question: How are the beliefs of Christianity expressed in symbolism and through worship?
This is a very ‘hands on’ trail. It starts with the font and the waters of baptism, where the children think about ideas of birth and rebirth into a new life. Then it moves around significant places in the cathedral, taking in the high altar, where the children think about friendsh
ips and families, and where they share a some special food. It finishes at the nave altar, underneath the corona. Here the children think not just about the crucifixion, but also about the good things in their lives.
Then they are invited to light a candle at one of our votive candle stands, and to think about something that is special to them. During the trail, children also read from the lectern, sing in the choir stalls and try on a bishop's mitre.
Duration: 45 minutes (without a workshop).
Price: £2.50 (without a workshop)
