270 Children Experience Easter at Hereford Cathedral
During Lent, 270 children from 8 schools in and around Hereford came to the cathedral to take part in ‘Experience Easter’. They experienced the story of Easter week brought to life through story-telling, music and interactive workshops.

Hereford Cathedral Awarded the Quality Badge for Learning Outside the Classroom.
For the second time running Hereford Cathedral Education Department have been awarded the Quality Badge by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom. The CLOtC believes that every child should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, and the Quality Badge is awarded to organisations that meet particular criteria.

Awards aplenty at choral festival
On Saturday, 8th October,Hereford Cathedral hosted 150–200 singers lifting their voices to take part in the Royal School of Church Music Diocesan Choirs Festival. The festival service featured choirs from as far away as Shropshire and Tenbury Wells, as well as all over Herefordshire. Hereford Cathedral Choir also took part and sung some items on its own. This year’s theme was the psalms, and their versatility in worship. Geraint Bowen, who conducted the festival, commented: “It’s marvellous to see how many singers there are in church choirs in the area and to hear them raise the roof of the cathedral, with Peter Dyke supporting them on the great Willis organ. Each year I’m delighted by the hard work they’ve all put in and the enormous skill they’ve shown – this year was no exception!”
New photo gallery of The Apple Fair, Sat 15 October
Crowds of people flocked to the Cathedral Close for the Apple Tree Fair. Over 50 stalls displayed their goods outside in the Close and inside the cathedral itself. There was a colourful music and dance programme including Vox Praeteria, Winforton Wind, Wimberry Step Clog Dancers, Hop Pickers Feast and even a set of Morris Dancers.
Hereford Cathedral celebrates the Diamond Jubilee
As the nations of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth are preparing to celebrate the diamond jubilee of HM The Queen, Hereford Cathedral is marking the beginning of the year’s festivities to celebrate the diamond jubilee of HM The Queen by holding a special service on Sunday 5th February 2012 at 3.30 pm.

Bach’s St John Passion in Hereford Cathedral
On Tuesday 3 April at 7.30 pm in Hereford Cathedral there will be a performance of Bach’s St John Passion. Conducted by Geraint Bowen, Hereford Cathedral’s director of music, the cathedral choir will be joined by Marches Baroque and a distinguished line-up of soloists.
The Dean's Three Choirs Sponsored Walk!
The dean of Hereford, the Very Revd. Michael Tavinor loves his walking and, every two years does a sponsored walk for a local cause. In 2007 it was for the Perpetual Trust followed in 2009 to support the ministry at South Wye in Hereford city.

Chorister open day at cathedral
Hereford Cathedral Choir is holding an open day for prospective choristers at the cathedral on Saturday 24 March between 10 am and 11.15 am. The open day is an opportunity for boys aged 6 to 9, who might be interested in joining the choir, to come to the cathedral and experience one of the daily practices.

HRH The Prince of Wales made a visit to the reception of the London gathering of Hereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust’s London supporters in No3 Parliament Street, the official residence of the Clerk of the House of Commons last Tuesday evening (Tuesday 7 February). The Clerk, Robert Rogers, is a former Chairman of the Perpetual Trust and extended the invitation to the Trust’s Patron.

Christmas Oratorio by candlelight
On Saturday 28 January at 7 pm in Hereford Cathedral there is a rare opportunity to hear a complete performance of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. This great work consists of six parts, originally intended to be sung separately on the six principal feast days between Christmas and Epiphany.

From 1st January until Monday 23rd January the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library Exhibition and the Library Reading Room are closed to enable an annual programme of essential cleaning work to be carried out
New Year heralded in by oldest bell.
2012 was heralded in by the sound of a bell which has rung across the city for 662 years! The bell will sound when the clock at Hereford Cathedral strikes midnight.

Cathedral hits new heights with first Broadband antenna in UK
Hereford Cathedral is to become the first in the UK to allow broadband antennae to be installed on its tower in a bid to widen the service to more rural areas in the county.

Christmas opening hours for shop, café and Mappa Mundi Exhibition
The shop, café and Mappa Mundi Exhibition will be closing at 1pm on Friday 23 December. They will remain closed on: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, 26 December and 27 December. The shop and café will also close for New Year's Day and Monday 2 January.
Special Half Term Tours!
This half-term there will be tours of the cathedral and it's tower on offer. Our volunteer guides will accompany you around the cathedral or up the 218 steps in the tower to the roof where you will be able to enjoy a birdseye view of the city and county .

Played on the historic Willis organ this festive offering has become a traditional part of the Christmas schedule at the cathedral with many people eagerly anticipating the announcement of the programme!

Sunday 4 December saw former Hereford Cathedral chorister Matthew McKay enthroned as Boy Bishop in the historic Ceremony of the Boy Bishop at the cathedral.

Mediæval Bæbes in concert at Hereford Cathedral
On Thursday 1st December the Mediæval Bæbes performed by candlelight in the Nave at the Cathedral.
Sir Roy Strong Donates New Black Vestments to Cathedral
November is the season for Remembrance and Sir Roy Strong, the renowned writer, gardener and historian, has donated a beautiful new set of black vestments to Hereford Cathedral to be worn at certain services. The new vestments were made by Croft Design from Much Wenlock and will be worn for the first time on All Souls Day, on 2 November, when we give thanks for our departed loved ones. The Cathedral has a special service of Remembrance on Wednesday 2 November at 5.30pm, when the cathedral choir will sing the beautiful Requiem composed by Gabriel Fauré and all are welcome to come along to hear their loved ones remembered and light a candle in their memory.
New choral & organ scholars for Hereford Cathedral
Hereford Cathedral has welcomed its new choral and organ scholars this September, and they have now settled in to thir new roles. The four gap-year students will be working with the cathedral choir on a daily basis: Sam Jenkins, Jonathan Pacey and Tom Scott-Cowell have joined the back row of the choir while Douglas Tang has taken to the organ loft.
Flog It! filmed at Hereford Cathedral!
The popular BBC2 antiques programme Flog It! presented by Paul Martin came to Hereford Cathedral on Saturday 26th November. Crowds of local people were welcomed and over 850 visitors took advantage of the free Flog It! evaluations.
