New Opening Hours for Hereford Cathedral’s Library and Archives

The modern Lending Library at Hereford Cathedral and its Archives will reopen after the winter closed period for cleaning and conservation work on Tuesday 24th January at 10am.

This year the opening hours have been extended to Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week from 10am until 4pm, and also the first Saturday of the month from 10am until 1pm. It will not be possible to retrieve material from the Archives on Saturdays, but items may be requested in advance.

Rosemary Firman, Librarian at the Cathedral said “We want to make it possible for more people to use the wonderful facilities that we have for study, learning and reflection. By being open on a drop-in basis an extra day a week and by opening one Saturday morning each month, it should be easier for users to consult the Archives, borrow from our loan collection of modern theological books and use the local history reference collection. We are still offering a by appointment service to scholars who wish to look at rare books and medieval manuscripts.”

You can find an online catalogue from the Library pages of our website

This online catalogue contains over 4000 modern books which are available for loan on religion and theology. It also lists the books in the reference collection including local history, over half the books in the Hereford Cathedral Chained Library, the Chained Library of All Saints' Church, Hereford, the Cwm collection of mainly 17th-century Jesuit books along with an increasing number of other historic books.
