Audience Chooses Organ Concert Programme

On Tuesday 27 September at 1.15 pm there will be an organ recital with a difference at Hereford Cathedral - the audience will have chosen the music to be played. Peter Dyke, assistant organist at Hereford Cathedral, will be giving the last in this year’s popular series of lunchtime organ concerts. The programme for this concert will be made up of pieces of music specially requested by members of the audience, giving everyone a chance to hear a favourite piece of music.

‘Every week during the summer, up to 300 people come to hear the cathedral organ played in these free concerts’, said Peter. ‘For the last one of the series it’s fun to make it a rather special occasion, so I’ve suggested people make requests.’ Peter Dyke

‘I am happy to have a go at playing almost anything, whether it’s officially organ music or not; all I ask is that people let me know by Sunday 25 September, which will give me a chance to learn the notes!’

Requests can be made via email to office@herefordcathedral.org or handed in on paper to the cathedral vestry. The final selection of items will remain a closely-guarded secret, until all is revealed on the day. The audience will be able to see the organist playing by means of the cathedral’s live video feed, which has proved a popular feature of the organ concerts. All are welcome to come and hear; admission is free, with a retiring collection.
